Unemployment is around 8% with over 80% of the population considered to be under the (world’s standard) poverty line. Yearly per capita income is $385. In 1998, Russia experienced a major financial crisis that severely affected Moldova’s economy which relies on Russia for over 60% of its foreign trade. Due to the sharp economic downturn that ensued, more than 25% of Moldova’s workforce left to be employed abroad. Evangelicals (including Pentecostal/Charismatics) represent .5% of the population.
