Hungary is a country of approximately 10 million people, which is experiencing negative population growth. The capital city, Budapest, has a population of approximately 2.0 million (metro area). In April of 1999 Hungary joined NATO and in May of 2004 it became part of the EU. Per capita income averages $8,500 per year. Evangelical Christians (including Pentecostal/Charismatics) are 3.5% of the population. One of the great problems for the church in Hungary is the suspicion, mistrust and division wrought by communism. Pray for our missionaries the Koehlers and the Shigos as they labor to bring healing and renewal to the church.
